romney and ryan in the way the democrats go after the gop when it comes to entitlements, but as we know, last summer, president obama was happy to make serious changes to medicare in exchange for getting a grand bargain. if he is reelected, he will go back to the table and i am sure the same questions will be on the tae again he has said he is open to making those changes. >> let me explain the difference between what obama would do with a $716 billion, and what romney and ryan would do. obama takes the money out of medicare and reduces the payments to doctors and hospitals which obviously reduces services. one sixth of all hospitals will have to shut down or refuse the elderly. he takes the money, and the 716 he saves, and places it into a new entitlement called obamacare, which will fund the uninsured. good cause but it takes from a and gives to b. what ryan does, in the original plan, he takes the same amount, and put it back into the medicare trust fund so it is a way to invest in the future. medicare is a way to see that we are going to cut a little now and then we will have it in

to mitt romney's and paul ryan's budget plan, it would cost $2,000 to pay for tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, it turns medicare into a voucher system. that's one thing that mitt romney was honest about. he said that we should cut medicare benefits. embrace that and proposed it. and then to add insult to injury said, yeah, we won't be able to have medicare to continue to be a guarantee, we will have to shred that safety net to preserve it. barack obama's plan has proven we can add years of solvency, 8 years by making sure we reduce wasteful subsidies to medicare insurance companies and add years of solvency. we need to work together to continue to move forward, not have republicans rooting for failure and really transparently being disappointed that we have made progress. we have a ways to go, but we need to continue to move forward and fight for the middle class, not for the people who are doing really, really well and make sure they can do even better. >> shannon: you brought up obamacare. and medicare, but that's a plan, which outside independent bodies and fact-checking o

to a common theme that he wanted governor romney to provide specifics for a number of the romney/ryan plans, which he hit on a number of times. he felt most comfortable, it seemed, defending obamacare, looking right into the camera. we didn't seem to have that moment that, sometimes debates have. but there was an exchange about the deficit and debt, talking about the simpson-bowles plan, that had an interesting back and forth. take a listen. e >> in one year, you provided $90 billion in breaks to the green energy world. now, i like green energy as well, but that's about 50 years worth of what oil & gas receives, exon and mobile this. $2.8 billion goes largely to small company, drilling operators and so forth. but if we get that tax rate down to 25%, that $2 important 8 billion is on the table. that's probably not going to survive. but don't forget, you put $ninety billion, like 50 years worth of breaks into soular and wind, to solyndra, fisker, i have a friend who said, you don't just pick the winners and losers, you pick the losers. >> he was talking about the energy plan. president obam

romney and paul ryan as, you know, against the middle class and taxing the middle class. i think joe biden is going to wrap mitt romney and paul ryan as tightly together as possible and just sort of drop the ryan plan on top it to try to implode the pair. they think that is good ground. as far as paul ryan is concerned, i think he is kind a policy wonk. his problem is he's a numbers guy, and he's up against frankly and i think both runs previous head of the republican party and michael nutter both said that joe biden is a very accessible politician. he tends to put things the way that people get it immediately. he's just got that kind of manner about him. i think that's the -- in some ways, you know, we look at the substance and style. as far as style is concerned, i think paul ryan's fear here is he's too much of a wonk sxort of throwing out numbers. you know, you can expect joe biden to say, gee, i took a look at your numbers and here's what they would do to george next door. ryan has to be careful about that kind of debate. >> the next presidential debate, you're moderating octobe

helped democrats across the board. governor romney chose paul ryan as the running mate on august 11th. before august 11th if you took a look at the generic congressional ballot polling in the country, it was pretty much tied. it was, mow, i talked about that still wind when you or in the 20-yard line. we prn the still wind. they were tight. maybe up one. after august 11th when governor romney decided to double down on the republican plan to fund tax cuts for millionaires and big oil companies, the generics began to spread. instead of being in a neutral environment, we were up one, two and the. then when todd akin in late august expressed those horrific thoughts and not what he said that bothered me but what he thought about some legitimacy to forms of rape, it widen even more then disclosures of the republican romping in the sea, the generics spread even more. independent voters were reminded how extreme the people are and that these people have priorities that would, in pack, end their medicare, in order to fun the tax cuts for millionaires. the more republican priorities are articul

romney performed well. people are going to say paul ryan should perform well. looking ahead, what does the president need to do or say to come out strong in the next debate without appearing aloof? >> well, first of all, how about just don't be aloof? you're supposed to be this huge inspiring leader. maybe try to bring a little zest in your voice. you're trying to save the world. have a red bull before you get out there. obama has the caffeine advantage over mitt romney who won't touch the stuff for religious reasons. exploit that advantage. also, perhaps barack obama can not take little naps every time that romney speaks. you can see it right there. he's like -- every time he would say one thing, he'd be like, well, romney wants to -- wants $5 trillion in tax cuts mostly for the wealthy, and romney is like, no, i don't, and obama is like okay, i guess you don't. maybe stick a little bit with your argument, and then my last big tip for him, the part of the debate you're allowed to prepare in advance, the closing statement, actually have one ready because it was a very uninspiring closi
